The proprietor of a chain known as FunGuyz, a series of establishments retailing psilocybin mushrooms, has ambitious designs on expanding to one of Canada’s most populous and culturally dynamic cities. However, the city’s mayor harbors contrasting intentions. As per reports by CTV, FunGuyz currently operates nine dispensaries throughout Ontario and envisages inaugurating an additional outlet in Montreal in just a few three weeks.

CTV highlighted that the owner, Edgar Gorbans, opted for a clandestine interview, choosing to obscure his identity behind a mushroom costume for his dialogue with CTV News.

Despite the fact that psilocybin mushroom sales remain largely illegal in most global jurisdictions, including Canada, Gorbans maintains a resolute stance.

As reported by CTV, Gorbans staunchly affirms that his merchandise serves a therapeutic purpose.

“We are striving to facilitate access to psilocybin in a way the government fails to provide,” he shared with the station.

Contrarily, the government, encompassing the administration in Montreal, harbors divergent perspectives.

ValĂ©rie Plante, the city’s mayor, expressed her resolute intention for local law enforcement to react appropriately to the unlawful enterprise.

“Given that magic mushrooms are not yet legal in Canada, we will, without a doubt, implement the law. Our Montreal police officers will be primed to execute actions in adherence to the law,” Plante informed CTV.

The Montreal police provided a succinct outline of their tactical approach to CTV, emphasizing that they will “assess an array of possible intervention scenarios, correlatively across our respective territories. We will designate responsible officers within each of our police departments. We also intend to consult with our nationwide police partners to ascertain the type of responses that have been administered to similar commercial activities. Moreover, we are contemplating the prospect of conducting preliminary meetings with the establishment managers to verify their intentions and expound on our directives.”

With an escalating acceptance and availability, psilocybin seems poised to become the forthcoming focal point of the drug reform movement. An increasing cadre of researchers continue to laud its therapeutic benefits, while a burgeoning number of legislators globally are expressing an inclination towards revising the laws pertaining to mushrooms.
