Donation is believed to be the largest ever in the psychedelics space
Blake Mycoskie, the creative mind behind Toms Shoes, has solemnly vowed to bestow a significant amount of $100 million to foster psychedelic research and enhance its availability.
In a dialogue with MarketWatch, Mycoskie elucidated his vision that the generous donation would fortify the efforts in psychedelic research, buttress academic entities delving into psychedelic therapeutics, and assist non-profit organizations striving to broaden access to psychedelic therapies for those in need.
During this interaction, Mycoskie expressed that his personal journey with ayahuasca, a form of psychedelic therapy he underwent in 2017, ushered him into acknowledging its healing prowess. Psychedelics, as he stated, “Opened me up in profound ways, deepened my connection to my spiritual beliefs, made me perceive the interconnectedness of us all, and the inherent perfection in the universe…I returned invigorated, with the realization that the experience was more potent than any previous therapy I had engaged in.”
As for the financial contribution, the sum of $100 million represents roughly a quarter of Mycoskie’s net wealth, marking what many assert as the most magnanimous donation to the psychedelic cause yet. Mycoskie emphasized to MarketWatch, “It is crucial that we approach this correctly, and that we adequately fund these foundations and nonprofits… I sensed a pressing need for action.
